This strategically focused role will ensure we achieve our ambitious plans for the future.

About Us - Welcome

Dear colleague,

Thank you for your interest in our newly created Deputy Principal roles.

These roles are being introduced at a particularly exciting time for Newham College. Our proposed merger with Newham Sixth Form College (Newvic) is progressing well and we have recently appointed Jamie Purser as our next Principal and CEO. Further information about the proposed merger can be found on the FEA jobs page for this role.

At Newham College we are motivated by our shared social purpose in making a positive difference to the communities we serve. As an anchor institution in one of London’s most diverse and fastest-growing boroughs we take our responsibilities for providing high-quality post-16 education and training very seriously. We have strong connections to the borough, employers and a range of key stakeholders and we are very focused on ensuring we deliver the best outcomes for our students, supporting them to develop the skills and qualifications that will help them progress onto their future career goals and ambitions.

Our two new Deputy Principals will be responsible and accountable for ensuring our provision is of consistently high quality, that the curriculum is relevant and that the wider experiences of students are exceptional. These strategically focused roles will ensure we achieve our ambitious plans for the future and the postholders will work collaboratively as part of a new senior team to provide motivational and inspirational senior leadership to our highly committed staff.

Our Deputy Principal for Quality and the Newham Curriculum will focus on the strategic leadership of quality and skills across the newly merged college whilst ensuring the provision at Newham College is ambitious and is closely aligned to the skills needs of East London and beyond. In practice this means embedding a culture of excellence in teaching and learning and ensuring that we surpass national benchmarks for student value added and achievement. It also means ensuring that strategies are in place to engage with stakeholders in the development, design and delivery of a forward-looking and innovative curriculum from entry level through to Apprenticeships and our HE offer, via the college and our Institute of Technology.

Our new Deputy Principal for the NewVIc Curriculum will be the key strategic lead for student experience and for safeguarding across the merged college. Through expert leadership the new Deputy Principal will ensure that the wider student experience is developed in an innovative, inclusive and aspirational manner, is sector leading, and provides high-impact approaches that support the achievement and progression of our students and aligns with local skills needs. Leading on the NewVIc curriculum, the Deputy Principal will provide expert leadership that develops a sixth form curriculum rooted in excellence, and that regains market share, continuously improves pedagogy and practice, and firmly establishes the college as a provider of choice in the borough.

Both Deputy Principals will have a broader leadership role to play in ensuring the newly merged college becomes highly successful and to do this you will role model positive leadership behaviours and values, supporting the whole staff team to develop and improve in a manner that builds positive collegiate culture, empowerment and drives accountability.

We have appointed FE Associates to support us with these important appointments. Interested parties are advised to contact our lead consultant Jo.Johnston@fea.co.uk prior to submitting an application.
