Introduction

COLLABORATIVE          CONFIDENT          COMMUNITY-FOCUSED

At Solihull College and University Centre, we have much to be proud of. Our recent Ofsted inspection confirmed that we are consistently good across all aspects of our provision and our financial health is outstanding. We have a fantastic team of staff and governors, and we take great pride in the achievements of all of our students.

We are now seeking a Vice Principal Funding & Skills who will lead on funding, projects and the skills agenda whilst overseeing the College’s involvement and engagement with the Greater Birmingham and Solihull Institute of Technology. Candidates will need to demonstrate significant experience of stakeholder engagement, a track record of achieving growth in apprenticeships, along with the skills and knowledge to identify areas of funding that support the College’s growth strategy in both higher education and the broader adult skills agenda.

We have appointed FE Associates to support us with this important appointment. Prior to submitting an application, interested parties are advised to contact our lead consultant, by emailing Jo.Johnston@fea.co.uk, to discuss the role before the closing date.

About Us - Welcome

Dear Colleague,

Thank you for your interest in the role of Vice Principal Funding & Skills at Solihull College and University Centre. This is a very exciting time for the College and the successful applicant will play a significant role as a member of the Executive Leadership Team, focusing on the skills agenda, driving growth in apprenticeships and Higher Education, and supporting the College to be outstanding across all of our operations.

The College’s quality of teaching and learning is excellent and our financial health is outstanding. We have a very good reputation locally, regionally and nationally. Our student enrolment numbers are healthy and growing. Student satisfaction, staff satisfaction and employer feedback are extremely positive. The College was one of the first to achieve an Institute of Technology (IoT) bid in 2019 and the IoT hub opened this summer. This year, the College won a Centre of Excellence World Skills Award, was recognised for its quality of careers support and was admitted into the Chartered Institute for Further Education. We are hungry for recognition and improving standards.

Our last full Ofsted inspection result in March 2022 was good and the merger with Stratford-upon-Avon College in 2018 was seen as one of the best managed in the country.

To succeed in this role, you will bring a range of relevant skills and experiences gained in a senior leadership position in Further Education. You will have a strong working knowledge of the funding landscape and a proven track record of securing funding through innovation, particularly across apprenticeships and Higher Education. You will be confident in building and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders and work with employers to build impactful and high-quality training for their staff. You will be deeply committed to supporting the College to be outstanding in all we do.

The College has three sites in central and north Solihull and Stratford-upon-Avon. We have over 10,000 students and a core population of 16-18 year olds, the majority of which come from Birmingham. Apprenticeships and Higher Education provide excellent pathways for our students. Our turnover is 48 million.

You will find further information in this pack including supporting documentation, a schedule of recruitment and how to apply. Our website and news stories will give you a good feel for the College. We place considerable importance on diversity and inclusion, and we recognise the diversity of our student body. Therefore, we are keen to attract candidates from a diverse range of backgrounds and actively encourage applications.

This is an important appointment and to help us to find the right person, we have retained the support of FE Associates. Prior to submitting an application, interested parties are invited to arrange an initial conversation with our lead consultant, by emailing Jo.Johnston@fea.co.uk, to discuss the role before the closing date.
