About Us

January 2021

Dear Colleague

Thank you for your interest in the new role of Chief People Officer, a senior role that is fundamentally concerned with change and transformation to enable the achievement of our strategic aims and objectives.

Founded in 1889, we are one of the UK’s leading institutes for adult education specialising in providing outstanding learning opportunities in the Arts, Culture and Applied Sciences. In addition, we provide vital learning opportunities for adults in English, maths and digital skills at each of our College locations, as well as a portfolio of provision for 16-18 year olds at North Kensington and Chelsea centres. Although we have a well-established track record in the delivery of excellent teaching and learning to the adult population of London, the recent merger of Kensington and Chelsea College into Morley College London means we are also at a new stage of organisational development. Attracting and retaining highly skilled, passionate and innovative staff has been a hallmark of our history and our new Chief People Officer will ensure that all people-related activities are aligned to facilitate the delivery of a strong and coherent culture based on our values.

As an active and proactive member of the College’s SLT and reporting directly to me, our new Chief People Officer has a critical role in transforming HR to become a People Operations function, enabling Morley College London to achieve our strategic goals and operational objectives through devising and delivering people and organisational strategies across the recently merged organisation. In doing so, you will ensure employees are at the centre of change as we develop and evolve. You will champion staff engagement, ensuring the work of the College and our people is underpinned by our values and excellent employee relations. You will play a crucial role in ensuring a high-performance culture and will draw on your expertise and knowledge to manage change effectively.

We are seeking a high-calibre, senior level human resources and organisational development specialist who has worked in an organisation of similar complexity. With specific expertise across the leadership of people services, organisational development, staff development, change management and diversity and inclusion, our new Chief People Officer will utilise their inspirational leadership abilities to build positive relationships across our pan-London college to develop and embed our plans and strategies. Whilst previous experience in an education setting is not a requirement of this role, we will expect you to have a strong affinity with the transformational nature of adult education and a strong alignment with our organisational values of - Work Together – Celebrate Diversity – Build Trust – Pursue Excellence - In Service of Others.

We have appointed FE Associates to support us with this important appointment and we recommend that interested parties have an initial conversation with either of our lead consultants, Matt.Atkinson@fea.co.uk or Jo.Johnston@fea.co.uk, ahead of the closing date and prior to submitting an application.

I very much hope you are as excited about this role as I am and if you feel you meet the requirements of the role and have a strong commitment to our mission and vision, I look forward to receiving your application.

Yours sincerely,

Dr Andrew Gower
Principal and Chief Executive
