Introduction

Looking to the Future!

At Hull College, we have a very clear mission to inspire, empower and educate young people and adults in Hull to realise their full potential. We are ambitious for the future and our current strategy will enable us to play a significant role in supporting prosperous futures for the people of Hull and the wider Humber region.

Our board of governors has a crucial role to play in driving and supporting our strategic aims and priorities, and we are now seeking a new Chair of Corporation to lead us towards this new and exciting future. Our new Chair will be a strong leader who has the experience to motivate and work with our highly committed group of volunteer governors.

We have appointed FE Associates to support us with this crucial appointment. Prior to submitting an application, interested parties are advised to arrange an initial conversation with our recruitment partner, by emailing Suzanne.Thurlow@fea.co.uk, to discuss the role before the closing date.

About Us - Welcome

Dear Colleague

Thank you for taking the time to explore the opportunity to join the Hull College Board as our next Chair.

We are excited and optimistic about the future of Hull for our students, the communities we serve and our staff.

Our mission is to help young people and adults in Hull and the wider region realise their full potential, and we aim to create a vibrant, sustainable and inclusive college, reputation restored, effectively meeting the diverse needs of the young people and adults we serve and deliver excellent education and training

This is a great time to be joining our Board.  We have just redeveloped our 2022-2025 strategic plan, the cornerstone to which is the seven “living” technical institutes and four “living” inclusive institutes, focused on the skills employers need for the future and encouraging more young people and adults to take up educational opportunities.

We have also welcomed our new Principal and CEO, Debra Gray, who brings excellent experience from leadership of an Ofsted graded “outstanding” college.

We are looking for an individual with enthusiasm, skills, and drive to lead our friendly and inclusive Board to help us achieve the ambitious strategic vision we have set ourselves. We offer a comprehensive induction with regular training and development opportunities to support you in your role, so previous experience in educational governance is welcome but not necessary.

The College has established good governance arrangements, and although I am an interim Chair, I have committed to remaining at the College until at least December 2022. As a Board, we recognise the importance of providing support and challenge to the Executive - and we have - the relationship with the Executive is open, constructive and we work together to deliver the College’s strategic aims. Governors are quite rightly proud of Hull College and take an active interest through their link activity roles. We have a clear vision for our estate, and also how the College can work better and more effectively with other providers across the city.

Hull has a captivating charm, a thriving arts community, welcoming, genuine people and the regeneration, inward investment and city redevelopment will offer great opportunities for those living in and around the city.

There is much to do, and much to enjoy. I do not say this lightly, this is a great opportunity if you are looking to lead a Board and make a real difference. Hull is a vibrant city and the community of Hull deserves an excellent city college, which we intend to deliver, and we look forward to welcoming a new Chair to our Board to support that important work.

We have appointed FE Associates to support us with this crucial appointment.  Prior to submitting an application, interested parties are advised to arrange an initial conversation with our recruitment partner, by emailing Suzanne.Thurlow@fea.co.uk, to discuss the role before the closing date.

Yours sincerely
Lesley Davies OBE, FCFE
Corporation Chair
