About Us - Welcome

Dear Colleague,

I’m delighted to introduce you to Barking & Dagenham College – the leading technical, vocational and professional education provider in East London. Barking & Dagenham College is a wonderful team of highly talented and deeply committed people working together to provide learning and to support the skills development of young and adult learners from diverse backgrounds.

Day after day, we see great examples of how our teaching and learning, student support and business services are making a difference to the individuals, organisations and the communities which we serve. For me, this is more than a job!

Whilst the COVID-19 pandemic has been an incredibly disruptive period for further education, it has also been a time to reflect and identify areas of growth and improvement.

As a forward-thinking college, we are continuing to work hard to develop a curriculum offer that aligns with local, regional, and national priorities and employer needs. In addition to this, we have the ambition to develop a fully integrated technology infrastructure, flexible and responsive delivery models, and an environment that continues to be safe and secure for staff and students.

As we look to the future, Barking & Dagenham College is well placed to be a real driving force in not only supporting newly employed people back into work but also in re-energising the country’s fiscal health.

Governors play a pivotal role in the success of the College and provide the strategic oversight and scrutiny to ensure we are achieving our mission, plans and priorities.

As Chair, you will have the opportunity to lead an incredible team of colleagues, working alongside our executive leaders to ensure our strategies for the future position us well to meet the region's skills and employment needs.

Within this pack, you will find out more about the College and most importantly about the role.

This is an important appointment and to help us to find the right person, we have retained the support of FE Associates. Prior to submitting an application, interested parties are invited to arrange an initial conversation with our lead consultant, by emailing Jo.Johnston@fea.co.uk, to discuss the role before the closing date.

I hope that you will be inspired by the opportunities and challenges ahead and be as keen to join us as we are to share our growth plans with you.

We look forward to receiving your application.

With best wishes

Mark Bass
